Vanessa is the founder of Radical Parenting and the author of “You’re Grounded,” which she wrote when she was 17. She is now traveling around the world to interview families for her new book, “Parenting is Flat.”
She is headed to South America for five weeks to interview forty-five families. She has interns all over the world. She recently worked with Tokyo Interns to interview families in that country. The main question on her mind—Does the Internet Bring Families Closer? This book is not yet published, but the topic is showing a growing interest from people around the world.

My son Fred is a recovering heroin addict. The journey our family started
When he was in his late teens spanned 19 years of deception, discovery, recovery, and setbacks. I am not a substance abuser, but as the wife of a functioning alcoholic and mother of two sons with addictions, as well as being an adult child of an alcoholic, I almost lost myself trying to keep everyone afloat. I spent twenty-one years in counseling and attending Al-Anon meetings to help me recover from abuse, blaming myself, and enabling the addicts in my life.

What: Jill Ammon Vanderwood, author of What’s It Like, Living Green? Kids Teaching Kids, by the Way They Live, will take a Leap for Literacy by skydiving from 12,500 feet in Ogden Utah. This event will help support two literacy programs, and it will be the kickoff for the Leap for Literacy school recycling program.

Throw Grandma From the Plane: Noted Children’s Author Takes A Leap for Literacy
Grandmother of six and author of What’s It Like, Living Green?, Jill Vanderwood, will take a Leap for Literacy, skydiving from 12,500 feet Saturday, September 12, 2009. This is a fundraiser to benefit the Literacy Action Center in Salt Lake City and the Reading Tub in Virginia and promote eco-consciousness through children’s literature.

My son is an organic gardener. It’s really just a hobby with him, but also provides a variety of tasty vegetables for our table. This year we grew spinach and three varieties of tomatoes; grape tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, and a much larger table size. We also have zucchini in all shapes and sizes and, of course, the pickling cucumbers!

This book is a compilation of stories and tips about living green. You will meet a girl who learned to drive with a car fueled by used cooking grease. You will read about a girl who started a recycling business when she was only five years old, reaching up to one hundred homes and businesses. Learn about Ryan Hreljac, who started Ryan’s Well Foundation, by saving up his first $70 to build a well for a school in Uganda, when he was seven years old.
